Codeine Restrictions: Qatar vs UAE Rules

The "Invisible" Opioid

In many Western countries, weak Codeine is sold OTC (e.g., Panadol Ultra, Solpadeine). In the Gulf, these are treated as narcotics.

UAE Rules

Strict. Codeine falls under Controlled Class B. You need the electronic permit from MOHAP to bring it legally.

Qatar Rules

Similar strictness. You generally shouldn't bring Codeine unless absolutely necessary. If you do, you need:

  • A certified prescription (attested by health authorities in your country).
  • No more than 30 days' supply.
  • Warning: Qatar customs scan almost all luggage. Found codeine without papers can lead to detention.
