What is Yunyu Kakunin-sho?
The Yunyu Kakunin-sho is an official Import Confirmation certificate issued by the Japanese government. You need it if you are bringing:
- Any amount of psychotropics (e.g., Diazepam, Methylphenidate) permitted by law.
- More than 1 month's supply of prescription medicine.
- Injectable medications (like insulin pens) or medical devices (CPAP, etc.).
Application Steps
- Download Forms: Get the official application forms from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) website.
- Get Medical Proof: Obtain a signed certificate from your doctor stating your condition, the drug name, dosage, and total quantity.
- Take Photos: Clear photos of the medicine box/label showing your name.
- Flight Details: Include a copy of your flight itinerary.
- Submit: Email everything to the Regional Bureau (Kanto-Shin'etsu for Narita/Haneda arrivals, Kinki for Osaka/Kansai).
Timeline: Apply at least 14 days before your flight. They usually process it in 3-7 business days.
