Context Matters
Medical abbreviations can be confusing because some have double meanings depending on the context (Eye prescription vs Pill dosage).
The Dangerous "OD"
- In Pill Dosage: OD = Omne Die (Once Daily).
- In Eye Exams: OD = Oculus Dexter (Right Eye).
Always check if the prescription is for drops or pills!
Timing Codes
- HS (Hora Somni): At bedtime.
- Q4H: Every 4 hours.
- PRN (Pro Re Nata): As needed (similar to SOS).
- PO (Per Os): By mouth (orally).
